It’s the end of the week and still so many Skylines left. I may just take it upon myself to decree another Skyline Week in the nearish future. As it stands, Ive obliterated my post count of 2010. That has to worth a beverage…

Also, if you’ve been here before I’m assuming you must be confined to quarters and prone to sniffing glue unless asleep. Further to that, you may have noticed that I’ve changed the “theme” of this page. That was because I was sick of the old one cropping my photos so cruelly and this was the first one I found that fit my current bill. I may do some more searching or tweaking. At some stage. Mebbe.

Today is about two years worth of Skylines from one used kuruma emporium – Flyrat in Minami Machida, right next to Up Garage and over the back fence of Tomei on Route 246. I may have posted a couple of these cars before, but for shits & giggles I’ll whack ’em all in the same post this time ‘cos that’s just the way I’m rollin’ these days. Yo.

I’ll post them chronologically, because any other system would tax my feeble intellect too much at this hour…

This overfendr’d R32 was there for quite some months.

Four doors with an iron mask.

It is possible to improve on a clean family tekkamen – by sticking a Truckosuka on the background. This was my second sighting in the metal of a Hakosuka & the first I could capture with my point & shoot soul-stealer. Quite excited, I got.

Just realised that this one has the R30, R32, Hakosuka, C10 racecar and a Z30 in the workshop at the back. You takes yer chances when you gets them…

What’s that under the cover behind the Stagea, R32 & Z32 I wonder…

This sounded almost as badass as the window shaking YonMeri that I kept seeing but never got a photo of…

Things just kept getting better…

This car is perfect.

One of my favourite words. Might just make a t shirt from this.

I’ve never done so much gawping at a single location before.

By this stage Flyrat was starting to cause me physical pain…

Dont care what the badge on the back says. It’s a Skyline.

Fettlin’ chap tolerated my happy-snappery. As they all did really. Slack-jawed yokels probably didnt happen by too often, may have given them all something to laugh at over Kenyobi Nomunication.

Wouldnt it be grand to have that sight greet you when you opened your garage door of a morn’?

T-shirt #2.

Tommy Kaira M30. Wonder where it is now…

The restoSuka that I’ve featured before.

A blissful way to close out the week…

211 reasons to go to work tomorrow…

Been a bit busy hanging out with a young feller who is about to start walkin’ soon. So, being a dad who plans ahead, went shoe shopping…

There’s much more to share – my WTP cruiser purchase from W-Base in Shibuya (had to ride the thing 40km home to Machida, but couldnt sit down & pedal due to the miniscule seatpost, so stood up the whole way after not having ridden a BMX bike for 15 years), more Group C & Nismo goodness from KN’s Factory, a wrap up of my time at Fukushima San’s Grand Slam Pro, some more painting & stickerings and probably more guff.

Hope youve been well!

Of Doom!!!

Or at least, of very big brakes, as Fukushima San of Grand Slam Pro on the edge of Yokohama pointed out. “Hard Tune” was also mentioned…

The bonnet scoop & grill are unique to the Minami (South) Kanto RNN-14 Owners Club. If you can judge an owners club by their bespoke bonnet scoops, I’d say that they must certainly be a collective of smooth operators.

Fukushima San intoduced me to Takihiro Inamoto San, the owner of this car, when I was lurking about Grand Slam a few days ago. I immediately began babbling about my Pulsar love, especially that for GTi-R’s, then regaled them with tales of carting the (at that time prospective) inlaws about New Zealand in my old N13, while they did a good job of looking interested (Fukushima San & Inamoto San that is – the inlaws spent their time trying not to look too appalled.).

The Australians tagged the R32 GT-R “Godzilla” after having their touring car series ripped asunder in the early ’90’s. Which got me to wondering about this Kaiju Kuruma…

Gamera? Manda? Guiron mebbe?

Actually, Im pretty sure I saw MechaElvis drive past in a lowered Silverado later that day, but was too shook up to get snap happy.

Whilst on the monster trip… It all just depends on how quickly you want to stop, really. Quite often when looking at hopped up cars, you’ll see something that puts a dirty great smile on yer dial. Mostly, that is more to do with Go rather than Whoa, but these brakes deserve a prize. Radness.

Not monster tuned, but enough to go like a Gamera. Or a Guiron. & definitely better tha MechaElvis’s Silverado.

This plaque is a limited edition of… one.

And no self respecting collective of smooth operators masquerading as an owners club in Japan would be complete without a smoothly executed carrybag. Ideal for carrying aboot…

…copies of Option2 featuring your kuruma.

The club that gets coverage together stays together.

I dont think Inamoto San knows that I took this photo, so if I post in the near future complaining of a ninja style beat-down…

Ups!

Okii arigato gozaimasu to Inamoto San.

As a Nissan otaku, Nobuteru Taniguchi’s HKS Silvia is one of my favourite drift cars. So how stoked was I to score this ChoroQ?

Totemo desu!

Arigato gozaimasu Fukushima San.

Next – this Pulsar GTi-R is not like the others…

But cool and accompanied by some tasty jp can coffee all the same.

Combini vigilant Mike Garrett at Speedhunters posted about these a week or so ago, so I have now fallen under the spell of Boss canned coffee. I would even buy it now without the sweet Super GT plastic kitchen table-abouts on the top.

One red can gits you a Choro-Q sized GT-R, NSX or that ugly Toyota thing…

Here are four of the five smaller Nissans. Had to visit a couple more combini for the Hoshino car.

But did manage to track it down,so all is good in this hood.

Here are the other small versions. So you could even go and buy the non-Nissans. If you wanted to. For some reason.

If you purchase yourself a twin pack of gold cans (they all taste the same to me), you get a 1.64 plastic cat-baiter. Only two of each marque, one in test (non) livery and a warpaint version.

Flash!

Must be something sneaky in that coffee – feeling a bit thirsty…

They gave me my first JGTC experience, allowed me to get up close & personal with the Nissan Can Am machine I’d always wanted to see & even introduced me to my first Tommy Kaira ZZ. A couple of weeks age I passed by and found this:

Why that would be a Nissan R380-II from 1967! I wasnt able to get inside this time, so indulged in rampant clickery from the wrong side of the glass. It did give me an idea of how low this fellow is – 985mm (according to the Nissan Heritage site) That is 38.77 inches (or 0.1959 rods, as it happens), so it could limbo past the skyscraper GT40 with an easy inch to spare.

The engine code was GR8, which perfectly sums up a 2 litre inline six, with triple Webers, enclosed in a body that could make you shout “Hoots Mon!” if you were so disposed.

Bet they wondered about the face prints on the window when they came in the next day. If they will keep displaying cars like this when there are Nissan otaku living in the area…

Because I suck, I didnt make it back to take more photos from inside the shop, whilst the R380 was still there. I will return in the next few days however, because when I drove past yesterday I saw that this car has been replaced with a R90C…

There are some more of this motor, plus some more KN’s finery in my flickr KN’s Factory set.

TV-Tokyo’s half hour weekly Super GT show today reminded me just how rubbish the weather was at Fuji last week. My Nismo hat didnt keep me warm, but the Nismo championship did keep me happy. Which brings me to two things, one of which I did last summer (heh – actually September, so autumn really, but so very much warmer) and another which happened ten years ago.

September was my first visit to KN’s Factory, ten years ago was the JGTC championship win for Masami Kageyama and Eric Comas in this Pennzoil Nismo GT-R. I saw the car as I passed by the store and almost crashed into a bridge. So returned with a camera.

If you were to drive by in September, you would quite likely have seen this.

As raced, with bugs.

The aero was a bit more extreme the following year, but this is still pretty tech looking. Perfect way to Sayonara the ’90s.

Somebody kerbed the wheels. Eric? Masami?

15 years of Nismo! The Nismo Festival at Fuji Speedway on November 30 will celebrate 25 years. Omedeto Nismo! Might be a bit chilly…

Eventually I noticed the sign asking me not to touch the car. Honestly – I didnt touch much of it…

Obviously no truth to the rumour that Japanese cars have smaller towhooks.

Quite a view that must have been. Dont worry – GT5 will have a cockpit view.

A Frenchman sat here. So did his Nihonjin buddy.

I was the freshest of freshy Gaijin at this stage & this was my first JGTC experience, so this image stayed with me until the racket of Fuji’s home straight concrete canyon blasted it out. I blame the VTEC’s.

Remember when SE Racing made those silver wing things, called Wing Things, that you could strap on you arm and be the BMX King of 7 year olds on your block? No? Yeah – Im old – I get sidetracked easily.

At the time, I thought that the Zexel signage detracted from the “purity” of the Pennzoil livery. I quite like it now. Ahh nostalgia… Yep. Old desu.

The products from this vending machine sell themselves. With help from the poster. I couldnt find a machine that vended posters. But the search made me thirsty. A cunning plan indeed…

They sure did. But this post isnt about Z’s.

Or is it?

As you would expect, the engine cover from a Nissan R90C was stashed in the window…

…along with the nose.

On a later sortie along Route 16, I noticed that something had changed here…

Blimey, I thought.

Why, isnt that a Nissan R382? With a 6 litre V12? This one is from 1969, a golden era for Japanese Group 7 sportscars. Any era that produced these Nissans and the Toyota 7 is golden in my book. Porsche turned up with a 917k for the Japanese GP, but Nissan took the top two spots. Gan-san was one of the drivers of the winning car.

If you werent already thinking that KN’s Factory was the best place in the world to be on this particular day, a Tommy Kaira ZZ was parked outside…

I had all kinds of nifty plans for the Fuji 300 today. Given my camera limitations, I was going to cruise the site & record all kinds of “lifestyle” images to keep & share. Making me a missionary of sorts. The weather forecast all week was sunny with cloud with 15 degrees for most of the day. Yeah well, thanks NHK and Fuji TV (you wouldve thought… never mind). 11 degrees at 10.30am, then it started raining and got colder. So I wussed out & stayed in my seat and bleated about my awol feet. The pit complex on one side of the straight and the grandstand on the other creates a concrete canyon of sorts, meaning the sounds are all there. WHAT? SORRY – YOU’LL NEED TO SPEAK UP! YES THANKS, I DO LIKE COFFEE AND MOTORCYCLES!

The good news is that Nismo have finally won another championship. All right!

Here is a photo of the car. In the pits. I thought that it would be better to include the big TV because it was quite dark. And cold.

Congratulations Satoshi and Benoit! And Nismo. Its been a long time waiting. And speaking of last year, even though nobody was, last years co-champ Daisuke Ito finished third in the race in the Eneos SC430 with Bjorn Wirdheim, after not racing for most of the season due to his nasty TV star accident.

The race was won by the Calsonic GT-R of Tsugio Matuda and Sebastien Phillippe. In the cold. The car has a livery similar to this bike:

The day had started not too cold, until we climbed into the hills. We trained to Shimatsuda, then took the Fuji Speedway Express (!). Nothing wrong with old buses. Dont be so judgemental.

Here’s some atmosphere. Looks a bit cold…

I think we may have jinxed the Woodone GT-R by sitiing almost opposite their pits as they were out after 20 laps…  Nobuteru Taniguchi & Dominik Farnbacher fared a bit better in GT300, winning the class. The Yunker Power Porsche had a great Battle Of The Drifters with Orido San’s Wedsport IS350 for many laps. Not sure how many. My brain had begun to freeze.

Clear, well focussed shots of Super GT Nissans are over rated I reckon.

Calsonic got new power unit. And they dont care who knows. Thats how they won the race. When you got new power unit you might win too. Word.

The Desperate and Dateless Camera Squad were throwin’ it down when the Race Queens came out.

All through the pitwalk, there was some kind of TV Shopping Network deal going on with the big screen broadcast. Didnt sell me on the cheesecake however. Looked a bit cold.

I aint watchin’ no damn Marches.

Something exciting happened in the opposite direction to the one I was facing. Maybe a March hit an iceberg.

I reckon Ralph Firman’s Cowboy Stance won the Pose Off. I was hoping he would bust out Blue Steel, but nah.

I was wearing two shirts, a jacket, hat, gloves (yes, gloves) & still whining about the cold. Shouldve shut up after this, but didnt.

Cars are on the grid. Must be time for some rain.

Getting a bit close to Daytona Prototype here… Didnt win the GT300 championship thankfully. Kazuki Hoshino and Hironobu Yasuda did that with the Mola Leopalace Z. Nice one chaps!

The Nissan supporters were going at it S-Pulse style. Juichi Wakisaka’s fans gave it a bit of a go, but he drives the wrong car, so, yeah.

Smiley geezer – Bibendum San.

Dammit. It’s not a GT. It’s a Prototype!

This was nuts. When the Japanese Anthem played, it was as if Jimi Hendrix had returned as a 12 year old Japanese girl. Unfortunately it took some time to defrost my wits, so here she is leaving the podium with her smokin’ gitbox.

The race start. I know. Im sorry.

Qualified first. Shrieked like a banshee. Dropped like a stone to 10th.

Perhaps as a concession to the ambitious name applied to the bus service (That said – “Express” generally means that the journey will be uniterrupted, which was true. The bus was just quite slow. Almost as much as the Studie Glad Z4. I know. That’s mean. It did look and sound great. WHAT?!) the bus fellow gave us a cool ChoroQ of the bus itself when we boarded. Yeah. I love Japan too.

The race photos are pretty dire, but if youve nowt better to do, are at:

To finish off, as the Super GT site doesnt usually have the English stuff up too quickly, for shits & giggles I ran the Jp version through Google Translater(tron):

All day I didnt want to sucker myself by thinking that the American public hadnt dropped the ball (so to speak). After all, Bush the Minor got back in ‘owt 4. But no! Nice one Americans! Nothing but net (as it were)!

I pinched the b ball theme from Supertouch, who also posted a fine interview with Shepherd Fairey this week.

Sunday was a little similar, not quite prepared to believe that McLaren had their first drivers championship since ’99. The race was a nailbiter enough, but who really could be totally confident that the FIA wouldnt find some bollocks to penalise Lewis Hamilton and hand the tltle to a Ferrari driver? Im sure they wouldnt mind which one. And even if Glock had slowed purposely, the points lost in the Spa debacle had been returned, so the right driver won. Although I think a hell of a lot more of Massa now. He can win next time. I dont mind.

Similar again was the IRL not so long ago with memories of ’07s strategic masterstroke. IRL races are at really antisocial times when you are in Japan. Apart from Motegi… I couldnt continue my photos of the potentially embarassing past theme in my Google search for Scott Dixon & am scannerless right now, so settled for this masterpiece. Publicists aye?

Omedeto Gozai Masu lads!

Hopefully I’ll be posting a photo of the 23 car after Fuji on Sunday. First Super GT race for me. Quite a month this is!
