SWOK! BLAM! NEW! POST!

“SWOK!’ and “BLAM!” 75x75cm acrylic on canvas.

I’d had the idea of a Ukiyo-E geisha figure over the top of a comic book exclamation type image for a while and did a trial run on some old cheap canvases with the geisha figure as a sihouette. They looked ok (we have one on our wall, so I see it every day and enjoy it being there), but doing the geisha properly stepped it up a bit. I’ll be doing some similar pieces again at some stage this year.

“BLAM!” is sold, pending the completion of the deal, but “SWOK!” is available. Do please get in touch if you’d like it on your wall.

The first triptych that I started (have finished several since) around 9 years ago. Used some fairly cheap canvases as couldn’t really afford much much else at the time. Because of this, the frame of one of them warped a bit pretty quickly, so I gave up on them and started on some new work. Had worked on them a little over the years, then decided to get ’em done after finishing the Matua School toilets job. And as such it’s quite a cool collection of different elements that I’ve been painting at different times. Anpanman and Baikinman for example – we’d not long returned from living in Japan and my wee boy was a big fan!

“Ahiru ga inainode, koko ni Mario ga imasu!” This is the first piece that I’ve managed to complete this year. Am in the midst of a couple of other projects, which unfortunately aren’t bringing in much $$ at the moment, so this is definitely available for purchase. It would look fantastic in your home. What’s a couple of days between friends? Not much at all! Kachimasu Ichi & Ni, the first two of a set of five. San is under way, Yon & Go will be done after I’ve finished a couple of other things – which I’ll show right here on this very blog quite soon (you may have noticed that committing to precise times isn’t really my forte.).

This series should be in a solo exhibition (my first!) in November. Provided Covid hasn’t screwed even more up by then. But I’ll try to stay positive. Even if an amply proportioned woman did cough rice all over the table and floor at my wife’s place of work today.

It’s been some time since I last posted, but totemo isogashi desu.

Firstly, I finished 男、その8ビットの弾丸が私の一日を作った、ビル。, which is this one:

Also finished “Kanojo mo, ‘misutãsupãkuru’ no chōsen o ukeireru koto o eranda.”

and “Bishōjo sěrãmûn wa itsumo watashi no senaka o motte ita…”

Then painted a skateboard deck for the Show Us Your Deck exhibition at the Incubator gallery in Tauranga, New Zealand.

Via my Google to facebook and back translating method it ends up being “She put flowers on her kimono”, which is ok, but I might need to try another method in future. Or name the next few from Homer Simpson quotes. Or Genbaku Onanies lyrics. Good to get it finished and it’s off to it’s new home. And I had some postcards made! PM me if you’d like one.

As the title is a rough translation of, it’s “un named as yet”, which it might continue to be, or I might let Mr fb translatotron do it’s magic. This is acrylic on a hardboard panel – have almost finished the next one on a hardboard panel too. Although I think I prefer canvas. Probably.

As of this piece, my new naming convention will be to come up with a vaguely appropriate title, Google translate it in Japanese, then post it on my facebook page @misutasupakuru, then use the fb translate function to finalise the English moniker. In this case: “Bruce worked hard for her kimono and wig.”
